Self praise is not wrong, it is praising yourself in front of others which is wrong , because people might think you are bragging about your achievements and qualities, sort of blowing your own trumpet in front of others, which I guess no one likes.
But come to think of it I am all for very loud , consistent self praise in front of people who thought that you will not amount to anything in life or think that you are useless, especially relatives who think that you are a complete failure. I have a cousin about whom every one thought that he was a duffer as a student and won't perform that well in his board exams and his past record was anything but special, he had to listen to insults from his relatives but he has performed beyond everyone's expectations and scored 85 % in his board exams, I have advised him to go all out in his self-praise in front of relatives who thought that he won't be that good in his exams, particularly when their own sons' and daughters have not performed that well.
Self pity is natural , to feel sad fro yourself when something goes wrong is kind of expected, it would be unnatural if a person doesn't show negative emotions or remains passive in face of bad events in life. it is the prolonging and making habit out of self-pity which is wrong and worrisome , that puts you in terrible mind set and all you do is become a Rudali and cry in front of everyone about the bad events in life. you devoid yourself of future happiness because of clinging on to your past misfortunes.
