This shared internship will focus on organizing a trip for seven people to the Power Shift Conference, participating in the conference, and bringing ideas back to the Southwestern University community. Power Shift 2007 in Washington D.C. will be the first-ever national youth summit to work toward solving the climate crisis. Southwestern students will join other young people from all backgrounds and from all across the nation will come together from November 2nd through the 5th to create a fresh, positive, and inspiring vision of an energy independent future. Organizing this trip will allow Southwestern students to be a part of the leaders of our generation who will share ideas, learn new skills, make new connections, and send a united message to Congress calling for change in the United States' current energy policy. There will also be numerous speakers, workshops, and networking opportunities for all who attend.
The Southwestern students on the trip will bring back ideas and momentum and work to make Southwestern a more sustainable university. Upon our return, we will make a documentary of the conference and share the film and our experiences with the Southwestern community and Georgetown High School and possibly the Georgetown and Austin communities as well. This internship will allow us to return to Southwestern ready to implement new ideas on campus. We will take what we learned at Power Shift to teach and inspire the Southwestern community to continue thinking in a sustainable direction. We will revolutionize and re-energize Southwestern University and work to build a movement here in Texas
