I am from Dublin but I spent roughly 8 years living in the states, leaving at 16 on a basketball scholarship for the last 2 years of high school, then college, and then played one year in the ABA. ....yeah like that Will Ferrell movie, but it wasn't very funny...
In College I did a dual-degree in Teaching and in english Literature in Boston MA. I did some teaching in High Schools but writing is my real passion. I'm a Joycean scholar. Ulysses is like my writing bible, so far as that, I refer to it constantly for guidance.
I teach English as my "job" but I have written some plays and am currently writing a book about contemporary Dublin and it is writing that I get excited about.
I am fairly nomadic. Since I was 16 I have lived in NJ, NC, MA, NYC, Dublin, Argentina, the UK, and obviously Ireland. I have been teaching English and doing volunteer work for the last year but I am moving home to Dublin for Christmas and staying Looking forward to being home, even if the country is in a mess...just means there is more to write about. The right music or movie can make or break my day. I have quite a few tattoos. I don't eat many vegetables. I like drinks like cosmos, I admit it, and strawberry martinis. I also like pints of guinness and whisky and sushi...not altogether naturally.
I was doing volunteer work/teaching English/playing basketball in Argentina prior to taking a teaching job in Spain but I am returning home to Dublin to work full-time on a book and a series of one act plays I am writing with my sister.
This year will be a great year. 2011 is when it all happens. I'm excited about writing and being back in Dublin. I've missed my friends and the banter you can have with random people you meet out. It's very easy to piss and moan about Ireland but when you've been away and lived in a lot of other places its value becomes quite apparent.
