My username, DullEngineer, is probably what most folks think of me; I am an engineer and computer systems programmer who is curious, a voracious reader (over 5,000 books on my Kindle and still growing...), a news junkie who follows finance, macroeconomics, and geopolitics intensively, and who love animals (I have dogs and have had horses). On the other hand, I would like to learn to dance, particularly latin dances and I am struggling and mostly failing to learn to play guitar. I get easily distracted by new algorithms for multi-threaded data structures, tractors (I have lived on several ranches and can operate tractors, backhoes, and dozers), architecture, science-fiction, quantitative stock-market analysis, history and cavalry training, guns and swords, ranch management, and biochemistry. Probably more things as I encounter them.
I was widowed unexpectedly seven years ago and I am still in the process of rebuilding and planning the rest of my life. I figure that, barring fatal accidents (I've squeaked through several, ranging from car & motorcycle accidents to sinking my sailboat), I've got another 30 good years (explicitly ignoring the inexorable progress of male-pattern baldness) and I'm getting tired of talking only to my dogs. They bark back, though. But then, on occasion my wife barked back too!
So, I'm looking for someone to converse with. By that, I mean interesting conversations and maybe some flirting too. As an example, my last wife the third, as it happens) and I spent the twelve years we had together literally together almost every day. We worked together, rode horses together, debated the news (and almost everything else) together and even cooked together. But she wouldn't learn to dance, however. We are all imperfect.
Oh, by the way, I tend to be attracted to taller, sorta thin-ish, more-or-less fit women. Physical chemistry counts, but it is unpredictable. An intellectual bond is critical, but that takes time to develop.
Beyond that, it depends...
