Would like to meet people with progressive politics, including those who place high value on human rights and social justice around the world, science, and the environment. I think of myself as bright, rational, and compassionate, but then that's for others to decide. I'm also quite funny, despite how serious this summary must sound (we each do our best) - and am fluent in spoken and written French as well.Must travel to different cities for academic grant writing and thesis projects - until finding a more permanent position in this unstable 'economic climate.' Went to graduate school in Ann Arbor and loved its diversity (a small oasis near a large city). Felt similarly in Cambridge, MA, Berkeley, CA, DC, & Chicago, IL.
Have been a jogger and rower for many years, and continue with them. Also had the privilege of studying with Seamus Heaney and Maxine Kumin in Cambridge, MA, surprised that some of my own work was published in in a number of literary quarterlies (with others to follow). I admire Frost, Bellow, Faulkner, Neruda, ee cummings, Updike, Salinger, Russell, and others. I sculpt in wood and stone (mahogany, lignum, cherry, birch, limestone, granite, and sandstone) and often create 'utilitarian art;' Also do batik, watercolor, pastel, portraits, and minimalist (black-ink) line drawings.
The views of Chomsky and Zinn (Goodman, Greenwald, Scahill, and Maass) matter to me. Without alternative PBS and NPR productions, mainstream media would bombard us with too many distortions and lies. Groups that seem to be disseminating honest information include Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, America's Watch, Doctors Without Borders, Z-Communications, and Truthdig. Would like to find others as well.
